NEBC Program Manager - Seattle

   Closing Date: Mar. 19, 2010

Employer:Northwest Environmental Business Council
Job Location: Seattle - King County
Employment Type:Full Time
Salary Range:$40,000-$44,000
Benefits:Health, dental, vision, vacation/leave, retirement matching

Description:

NEBC is a five-state non-profit trade association, headquartered in Portland, representing 250 Northwest service and technology firms working in the environmental and energy industry. In operation since 1996, NEBC is strong and growing. This position will support that growth while contributing directly to the strength and influence of the industry – and the health of the environment – in the Northwest. (see www.nebc.org)

The Program Manger will report to the Executive Director and will function as part of a four-person team (three at the main office in Portland). Working out of a downtown Seattle location, the Program Manager must be able to act independently, possess strong self-management skills, enjoy selling and managing details, and be flexible in adapting to the organization’s changing needs and priorities – all with an eye to developing the organization. Some regional travel and evening work is required. [job open until filled]

Duties:

Conference Planning & Support (40%). The Program Manager works with other staff on NEBC’s specialty conferences and other events as needed. Tasks may include contributing to conference and event design, content planning, coordinating planning committees and speakers, plus direct solicitation of sponsorships, exhibitors, and marketing partners.

Special Interest Group Coordination (30%). The Program Manager has a lead role in organizing and supporting Special Interest Groups serving NEBC members – including the Washington Energy Forum, a regional Bioenergy Forum, the regional Climate Change Forum, and a local member chapter in Boise. Others may be added over time.

Representing NEBC (20%). The Program Manager joins other staff in representing NEBC directly to organizations and governmental organizations in Washington and at general meetings and events – especially regarding emerging issues such as sustainability, climate change, and clean technologies, but including traditional environmental sectors as well.

Member Support & Recruitment (10%). The Program Manager shares responsibility for building strong member relationships and recruiting non-member companies to join NEBC.

Qualifications:

The successful candidate must be:

- Strongly self-directed and self-motivated, with the ability to manage multiple concurrent priorities and deadlines with good attention to detail.

- Outgoing, with strong interpersonal and relationship management skills, including the ability to organize, recruit, and lead member committees.

- Must be able to “sell” (whether ideas, event sponsorships, or memberships).

Applicant should have a Bachelor's degree and relevant work experience, and needs to be able to understand technical issues.

Pluses include: experience in environmental, energy, or related NEBC industries; experience with trade associations or other member-based organizations; knowledge of Washington state’s organizational “landscape”, and other contributory skills (e.g., marketing, graphics, web, etc.)
